Wow I can't believe that April is here already although the weather here is still very warm. I haven't posted for a few days as we were lucky enough to grab a couple of days away :) This is rare for us as we can't leave the farm for long. Alan's wonderful sister Margaret and her husband Ross are going to `farmsit' for us in May and we plan to spend a week at Bargara Beach soooo last week we went up to check the place out. Here is a photo of our `new' camper - a reconditioned 1970's model set up on site :) Just perfect for us. It has a double bed, a sink, fridge and seating and a fair bit of storage space. Down the track when we `retire retire' we plan to buy a newer pop up Jayco camper but this will do us for now.
Bargara is located on the coast, a short distance from Bundaberg which is about 230k's from our place so not too far for an overnight stay. We turned off the Bruce Highway at Childers and on the drive through to Bundy I could not believe how much sugar cane there was growing. Acres and acres as far as the eye could see, it all looked a giant green inland sea as it waved in the breeze. We absolutely loved Bargara but of course it has been `discovered' by the developers so will not remain quiet for long. We stayed at Bargara Beach caravan park at Neilson Park which is walking distance from town and across the road from a really nice little beach. The caravan park people told us that Neilson Park was bequeathed to Council as a reserve so hopefully it will remain as a protected oasis for future generations. This is Neilson Park beach taken at around sunset on a Thursday evening, pretty quiet and beautiful, we were the only people on the beach at that time. Earlier on in the day we went uptown for lunch and ate burgers at a great little cafe just across from Bargara Beach. The foreshore and the town centre has all been beautifully landscaped and there are loads of places to sit and have picnics etc.
We had dinner at the Bargara Beach Hotel which has great food at reasonable prices but we noticed that there were quite a few other nice places to eat as well including a couple of clubs. We are looking forward to trying these next time :)
