Yesterday was the start of our new term at RDA. It was also the start of our Carriage Driving Programme which a team of us have been working towards for over 12 months now. Alan is now qualified as a `Level O Whip' as are 2 other volunteers, and I am a groom. At RDA the `whip' is the qualified driver in the carriage and the `driver' is the person with the disability. The driver has a second set of reins and is often able to drive the horse and carriage, particularly after they gain experience and expertise over time. This is why RDA also stands for `riding to develop abilities'. It is interesting that this applies to the volunteers as well as the riders and drivers :)
